Free Music Platform for Independent Artists
Dear Turmoil Music friends...
Our new website 'TURMOIL MUSIC PROMTIONS' has been launched today...
This site is a subdivision of our 'TURMOIL MUSIC' network and content will be added accordingly... I'm asking you to help me and think about how to make this site as functional as possible. You may notice that not all menu items are up and running. I will be building things up gradually in the coming weeks. Any ideas or thoughts on how to improve things will be very much appreciated. Send me your feedback and add your thoughts to this discussion...
To access the new subdivision you can click on the red 'Promotions'' link on the right side of the main page..
Cheers,
Frank

and (of course:-) I agree with the Mediciation Club: well said!
I'd take it one step further: make it "Home" of Turmoil Music, the main entrance, the window, eye and earcandy.
we (the workers) 'log in' and go to our work areas, visitors can 'shop' and choose if they want to go to individual pages.
Like an independent music shopping mall!
is that the clue?

separate entrances for musicians and visitors?
Permalink Reply by Hurrymania on April 14, 2011 at 7:16pm No, simply one homepage, with clear directions to where you want to go.
first this: haven't heared it yet, but very important:
ask the visitors! what do they want to see? what are their expectations.
Also friends who are in advertising, websites, PR and marketing. they're the experts.
The pages now ( I agree with Kikai) are like Facebook and all the others: full of Linkboxes. OK they're all Turmoil links, but why? we want them to stay, not go! We're proud that Turmoil( read: Frank) works hard to spread the word and is everywhere. But one list (visit us at:) with icons is enough.
observation: I visited the site without logging in: I was surprised that visitors can just come in & read the forum! this should be "members only", or not? Same for some of the other places. also there are some tabs than can go all together, cause this info is on every personal page and can now be found on the "promotions" page.
well written!
fully agree on all parts.
@Frank: maybe a good idea to start a huddle on this?

Well we think it's a good idea for visitors cause it will be easier for them to have a whole global view of what's happening on Turmoil i.e all audios, videos and so on at a single click if we understood it well..(did we?:))
Then, when someone is interested in one particular artist, they still are able to have a look at the concerned profile..
Concerning ReverbNation, facebook, MySpace (and so on) redonduncy, well we think it's always a good idea to have an independant place or personal website just in case..
Just saying and giving our opinion. And whatever, thank you very much for the effort to "try" new things and ideas..
Cheers to you all..
Permalink Reply by Nama Saya on April 19, 2011 at 2:37pm I'm very much a fan of the content that would be available on the promotions site (streamings, interviews, radio etc.) but i think that if we were to have two different sites, the content on each of them would have to be unique enough to draw visitors to them for different reasons.
In regards to Hurrymania's comments regarding PR:
How about a poll/survey to evaluate Turmoil members/visitors opinions on proposed future changes?
As the site has gotten larger, the number of members who have been vocal in issues regarding the website has not grown as much...Obviously everyone here has important and busy activities outside of this website that takes up their own time, so why don't we try connecting with these less vocal members of the community, and see what they think of the idea of Turmoil Promotions?
Cheers,
Chris
chris,
this is totally normal.
if you provide a place for people to gather and you start getting them into action there are always two groups:
a) the ones who are willing to be active and do participate in e.g. discussions (these are always only a few people) and
b) the large group of those doing their stuff and not participating. though being active by creating heavy buzz on the network :)
the difficulty is to keep the few active people being active .... because if they switch to being inactive the network is dead. very simplified.....
and the overall question is if and how to motivate inactives to become active. since the very beginning of networks i've not seen one working solution for this.

Permalink Reply by Frank Weyzig on April 19, 2011 at 9:42pm Yes, it's just like Kikai said, and therefore I don't think it's necessary to do a poll or survey.. If members don't decide to take part in the discussion I don't think they will participate in a survey or poll either... let's just wait if more people will join the discussion... In the meantime I will evaluate all input so far to make decisions on how to continue the site ;-)
In the next newsletter I will bring this up again for everyone...
Thanks so far for all of your input...
Cheers,
Frank
