Ah… Where to start?
An album release from a band that has been away from the scene for more than a decade.... An album that initially has been recorded 11 years ago… Is there any reason for that? Well yes!
Lately, I’ve been slowly moving my way back into the music scene with my contribution for 'White Rose Transmission', and one night, while I was working in my studio on one of the WRT tracks, I stumbled on these long forgotten B4B files on my hard drive. After playing some of the tracks, I was stunned about the freshness and the dynamics of the songs. Just one thought entered my mind… This album deserves a second chance!
After recording this album with Born For Bliss in 1999, the band split up due to all kinds of problems with our former management and record company. At that time, frustrated as I was with the whole business, I just gave up and never found the energy to do a final effort to release the album.
Shows you how things unexpectedly can take a different course! Now, under the wings of German label ECHOZONE, the album is re-mastered, neatly packaged and anxiously waiting for you!
What makes this album so special, you would probably ask?
I could try to describe the music on this album to you. It would be difficult though, to not talk in clichés. Yes, some of you may remember that me and Willem van Antwerpen, were former members of dutch electronic wave legend 'Clan Of Xymox'.... So undoubtedly there will be some early Xymox influences on this record as well. Remco Helbers found his way to Born For Bliss via 'The Dreamside', and with his very own style of playing the 'Chapman Stick' he adds a special dimension to the Born For Bliss sound....
For the real fans it will be a surprise to listen to ‘Dragon’, one of the bonus tracks on the album. This song is a demo I wrote and recorded during the early Xymox period and still is one of my favorite songs and it definitely reflects the mood of that era. Another extra is my demo version of ‘Ylene’, which I wrote for ‘Love Like Blood’ for their ‘Snake Killer’ album. And then there's also a demo version of 'This Love', the very last song I ever wrote for Born For Bliss… So the album is not just released after all, but also packed with extras!
I could not leave you without giving you my view on the music scene. We all know that the music business is going through a massive change right now. Imagine this… While I was playing with Xymox in the mid eighties, our first album was released on vinyl. There were not even CD’s back then! The speed at which everything is changing is incredible! Nowadays, all existing music, almost everything that has ever been recorded, is downloadable, legal or illegal... Is there still hope for alternative music and their creators? Of course, as long as you, the fans, are willing to support your favorite artists. And as long as we, your favorite artists, are willing to provide you with pure and honest music…

The last album of Dutch formation BORN FOR BLISS was recorded almost a decade ago and then the band split up due to different kinds of problems yet the story wasn’t over and finally long-awaited ‘Between Living & Dreaming’ made its way to the fans. BORN FOR BLISS was founded in 1994 and it deserved popularity among lovers of the first wave of gothic rock or new wave. But it should be said that the band’s music also contains the echoes of clear dark wave, musical complexity typical for PINK FLOYD and melodic effects of pop rock.
The new release of the musicians first of all amazes with the plenitude of the sound and its completeness. The CD contains 15 tracks, four of which can be regarded as bonus material. Gentle, melodic gothic rock renews the atmosphere of the early 80’s and immerses a listener into a shade of gothic clubs when dark wave was just arousing. It feels like we become witnesses of birth and development of new style which is hard to find now in its original form because of the intensive infusions of dark electro and industrial.
Maybe that’s why it’s so pleasant to listen to ‘Between Living & Dreaming’: live guitars, crystal piano passages, unobtrusive symphonic arrangements, rather diverse drums, deep heartfelt vocals and accessible lyrics make a listener forget of the reality at least for about 75 minutes however all the compositions are so impressive that could remain in one’s memory much longer then that. BORN FOR BLISS created a peculiar work indeed which is worthy to listen to again and again.

Music can be glamorous but it's also the cradle of many sad stories, or unreleased dreams. Born For Bliss is a band in that league as they always were victimized by the curse of (my all time fave band) Clan Of Xymox. Maybe Frank Weyzig will bite of his nails if he sees it again, but sorry, I feel I have to. Anyway Frank used to be one of the original co-founders from Clan Of Xymox. For some reasons Frank left the band and some years later he came back with Born For Bliss.
In 1997 there was the release of their debutalbum "Flowing with the flue", an album nobody cared about. You can always blame the press but this time it was the press' fault.Automatically Frank got compared with Xymox and they concluded : "Well, it's not Xymox....". Of course it's not Xymox, it's Born For Bliss. Having said that I think I would never have given the album a change (the press interest was something like zero) if Frank wasn't a member of Xymox, but a musiclover listens and listens and then form his opinion. Two years later the band had a second album, this one... The big frustration was that back then not one label was interested in releasing this album, until now as the German Echozone-label decided to give it a release.
Mind you, Born For Bliss aren't back as Frank is now playing with White Rose Transmission (the band from Carlo Van Putten and the sadly missed Adrian Borland) who recently released a new album (see elsewhere on these pages). It's a shame this album never got released as once again Born For Bliss are bringing psychedelic goth-rockwave that sometimes (hey that's strange) refers to The Sound, at other times (true is true) to the Xymoxsound, at other times Dreadful Shadows... As a bonus you get some unreleased demos as well. You got the picture? This is a brilliant gothwaverecord that finally deserves to see the lights...
Oooh in love with a ten year old album...thanks to Echozone I guess!
